Camerata is an Italian word which means: A group of individuals who enjoy similar interests and/or share a strong passion for a particular art form, and who get together often, meeting in a chamber (camara) to enjoy, play, talk about their loved art form. In this case the passion is for Argentine tango music. The members of a "camerata" are referred to as: "camerati", perhaps the closest to this in English will be the word "comrades". As to the "camerata", in this case, the closest definition will be an "Argentine tango chamber ensemble"
When Mr. Diaz founded this group in Atlanta, GA (1991), he announced that different world class musicians with such passion would join at various times and places. Now his vision has become a reality not only in Atlanta, but also in Denver, Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Other cities are in preparation at this time.
Under the sponsorship of The Rio Plata Institute and other
institutions Mr. Diaz would travel to cities where there may be interest
in organizing The Tango Camerata. Educational institutions are the primary
object of Mr. Diaz work. However, the popularity of Argentine tango as
a dance, have caused many dancing groups and/or clubs to be organized in
major cities throughout the world. Mr. Diaz would like to receive requests
from those groups. Please review the following page: Tangueros
and Tangueras
