at
age six under the tutelage of Bandoneon Master Arcangel Juan Stefano and
the great bandoneon master Ciriaco Ortiz. At age seven he performs for
the first time at the Theatre of San Nicolas. At age 12 he form and directed
his first orchestra. At age 16 he moves to Buenos Aires where he plays
with various orchestras and studies with teachers such as Ciriaco Ortiz.
At age 18 he moves to Mar del Plata where he wins the Mar
del
Plata Music Festival. He becomes part of the orchestras of radio
LU6 and LU9 of Mar del Plata. He also performs at the casino and many area
night clubs. He excels in the performance of music from Argentina: Tango,
the music of the city, and folklore, the music of the gauchos. In 1970
he immigrated to the United States and completed postgraduate studies in
music, audio, acoustics and recording arts at Brigham Young University.
While living in Atlanta, Georgia, he performed with The Atlanta Virtuosi.
The premier performance of his ensemble The Tango Camerata was Tango Times
at the Wooddruff Arts Center in Atlanta a program with 13 musicians produced
and directed by Mr. Diaz. Other performances include venues such as Cannon
Chapel at Emory University, The Performing Arts Center at the University
of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, and most recently at the Harris Fine Arts
Center, University of Bringham Young, Provo, Utah, and the Latin American
Festival (10,000 in attendance) at the Franklin Quest Stadium in Salt Lake
City, UT. In Washington DC he performed as a guest artist with Quintango
at the Organization for American States, The Argentine Embassy and other
venues. He performs regularly in Denver, Salt Lake City, San Francisco
and other places in the US and Canada He is also the founder and
Artistic Director of The Rio Plata Insitute.
A leader in the Tango Scene of San Francisco said of Dan:
