The Rio Plata Institute have an important cultural and educational mission:
its
fresh waters bathe the shores of Argentina and Uruguay. Its name,
"River of Silver", was given because of a legend among the natives about
rich silver mines in the area which is today the country of Paraguay.
The silver mines were never found, but the artistic richness of the natives,
of the immigrants, and of the people who live in these countries today,
is proof that the name was correctly given. The area offers an inexhaustible
source of cultural richness. It is our objective to not only introduce
Argentine and Uruguayan forms of art, but to include artistic contributions
from Paraguay and Brazil, the two other countries where important tributaries
of the Rio de la Plata originate.
We wish to work primarily with institutions of higher education to introduce the music of these countries through different programs. To carry out our mission we hope to work in conjunction with art foundations and sponsors, both nationally and internationallly, and with all other interested parties.
Thank you.
